News to Note

Starbucks: My Brew Heaven?

If Starbucks is a part of your daily grind, the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) is giving customers a reason to reconsider. A portion of every cup of coffee helps to fund the corporate assault on marriage, the group says. To bring greater awareness to the company's ultra-liberal ties, NOM is launching an international campaign called "Dump Starbucks," targeting global business partners in particular. "We are today announcing a sustained public campaign calling on Starbucks to stop waging war against marriage, and the views of more than half its worldwide customers. Starbucks should be in the business of offering all its diverse customers a great cup of coffee, not taking sides against the views of its customers, vendors, and employees around the world."
The irony, of course, is CEO Howard Schultz's recent pronouncement that Starbucks is a post-political, post-partisan company. Of course, that turned out to be a grande exaggeration, since the franchise directly and publicly endorsed a bill to redefine marriage for the entire state of Washington. Jonathan Baker, head of NOM's Corporate Fairness Project, flew to Seattle to confront Schultz and asked his board if homosexual "marriage" really is "core to the Starbucks brand," as his vice president put it in January. "Yes," Schultz said. Another shareholder spoke up and asked how it could be in the company's interest to wage a cultural war. Schultz abruptly cut off questions. October Baby Delivers!

Can going to a movie save lives? Producer Jon Erwin is counting on it. He and his brother are the driving forces behind a powerful new film in theaters starting tomorrow called October Baby. Inspired by a true story, October Baby centers on Hannah, a college freshman who makes the startling discovery that she's not only adopted but the survivor of a botched abortion. When Hannah takes a trip to find her birth mom, she ends up on a journey toward forgiveness. "I think it's time that the unborn have a voice," said Erwin, "and I think that's what this movie gives them." So far, critics have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the film, which is a testament to the many years Jon and his brother Andrew have spent in the TV business.
"My job as a filmmaker is just to challenge people to stop and look at something in a new way, to challenge them to think. I hope October Baby brings people to the table who disagree on both sides and raises the value of life past policies or personal opinions..." The goal is changing minds--not just in the audience but in the industry. "This is our chance to say together, we're tired of what Hollywood is force-feeding us, and we're tired of Hollywood not listening to our voice... Every movie ticket is someone's vote." So get yours today! The movie premieres this Friday. Find a theater near you at OctoberBabyMovie.net.

Heavenly Concepts for Believers in Christ!

Laurie's note: I’ve been doing some study since last April about the promise of Eternal Life for believers.  My sweet friend and cancer patient, Lisa, and I explored the concepts of Heaven in God’s Word.  She has since gone to that place I dream of.  Now that others are facing this transition, I thought I’d publish some notes and verses worth sharing.

God’s Word on Heaven & Eternal Life :

1 Corinthians 2:9 (NIV)
However, as it is written:
No eye has seen,
No ear has heard,
and no human mind has conceived
the things God has prepared for those who love him—

John 3:16 (NIV)
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Revelation 22
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal,
flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb

John 15: 9-11
As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

2 Corinthians 5 : 1-7
Awaiting the New Body
For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling,  because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God,
who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. For we live by faith, not by sight.

2 Corin 5:8
We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be
away from the body and at home with the Lord.

Isaiah 26:3
You will keep in perfect peace
those whose minds are steadfast,
because they trust in you.
Trust in the LORD forever,
for the LORD, the LORD himself, is the Rock eternal.

Revelation 22 (NIV)
Eden Restored
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month.
And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.

No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.

There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches.
I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

More Biblical Facts on Death

Believers can face death without fear.
Psalm 23:4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil,
for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. (NIV)

1 Corinthians 15:54-57
Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die,
this Scripture will be fulfilled:
“Death is swallowed up in victory.
O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”
For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power.
But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. (NLT)

Romans 8:38-39
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,  neither height nor depth,
nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us
from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Believers enter the Lord's presence at death.
In essence, the moment we die, our spirit and soul go to be with the Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:8
Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies,
for then we will be at home with the Lord. (NLT)

Philippians 1:22-23
But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don’t know which is better.
I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me. (NLT)

Believers will dwell with God forever.
Psalm 23:6
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. (NIV)

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (NIV)
Believers Who Have Died
Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.  For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.  For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.
And so we will be with the Lord forever.
Therefore encourage one another with these words.

Jesus prepares a special place for believers in heaven.

John 14:1-3
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me
that you also may be where I am." (NIV)

Philippians 1:21
For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. (NIV)

Revelation 14:13
And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this down: Blessed are those who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, they are blessed indeed, for they will rest from their hard work; for their good deeds follow them!” (NLT)

The death of a believer is precious to God.

Psalm 116:15
Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. (NIV)

Believers belong to the Lord in heaven.
Romans 14:8
If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord.
So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. (NIV)

Believers are citizens of heaven.

Philippians 3:20-21
But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control,
will transform our lowly bodies so
that they will be like his glorious body. (NIV)

After their physical death, believers gain eternal life.

John 11:25-26
Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" (NIV)

John 10:27-30
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.  My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.
I and the Father are one.”

John 3:14-16
Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

1 John 5:11-12
And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life,
and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life;
whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Believers receive an eternal inheritance in heaven.
1 Peter 1:3-5
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation
that is ready to be revealed in the last time. (NIV)

Believers receive a crown in heaven.
2 Timothy 4:7-8
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.(NIV)

Eventually, God will put an end to death.
Revelation 21:1-4
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away ... I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God ... And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." (NIV)

Why are believers said to be "asleep" or "fallen asleep" after death?

John 11:11-14
1 Thessalonians 5:9-11
1 Corinthians 15:20
The Bible uses the term "asleep" or "sleeping" when referring to the physical body of the believer at death. It is important to note that the term is used solely for believers. The dead body appears to be asleep when it is separated at death from the spirit and soul of the believer. The spirit and soul, which are eternal, are united with Christ at the moment of the believer's death (2 Corinthians 5:8). The body of the believer, which is mortal flesh, perishes, or "sleeps" until the day it is transformed and reunited to the believer at the final resurrection. (1 Corinthians 15:43; Philippians 3:21; 1 Corinthians 15:51)

One Minute Each Night

I got this over the internet -- not a bad concept.  -- Laurie

ONE MINUTE EACH NIGHT
This is the scariest election we as Christians have ever faced, and from the looks of the polls, the Christians aren't voting Christian values. We all need to be on our knees. Do you believe we can take God at His word? Call upon His name, then stand back and watch His wonders unfold. This scripture gives us, as Christians, ownership of this land and the ability to call upon God to heal it. I challenge you to do that. We have never been more desperate than now for God to heal our land. This election is the scariest I remember in my lifetime.
2 Chronicles 7:14. 'If my people, which are called by my name shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.' During WWII, there was an advisor to Churchill, who organized a group of people who dropped what they were doing every night at a prescribed hour for one minute, to collectively pray for the safety of England, its people and peace. This had an amazing effect, as bombing stopped. There is now a group of people organizing the same thing here in America. The United States of America, and our citizens need prayer more than ever!!!
If you would like to participate, each evening at 9:00 P.M. Eastern Time (8 PM Central, 7 PM Mountain, 6 PM Pacific), stop whatever you're doing, and spend one minute praying for the safety of the United States, our troops, our citizens, for peace in the world, the upcoming election, that the Bible will remain the basis for the laws governing our land, and that Christianity will grow in the U.S. If you know anyone who would like to participate, please pass this along. Someone said if people really understood the full extent of the power we have available through prayer, we might be speechless. Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have.
Thank you. Please pass this on to anyone who you think will want to join us. God Bless You!!!

Good Christian Belles - An Unfair Attack

Once again, television stoops to a new low in programming.  We cannot even begin to tell you the content of the offensive program, "Good Christian Belles."

What we can tell you is to take a look at comments from media watchdogs, Parents Television Council and One Million Moms (see links).

We must take a stand against offensive TV.  Take time to write advertisers, such as Target, Kraft, Mentos, ConAgra and Unilever.  Our links will explain how.

And, while you are at it, let Hardees and Carl's Junior Restaurants know we don't appreciate their sexualized ads that demean women and flirt with pornographic images.  Enough is enough!

We can take a stand for decency on the airwaves!
