Sleepless

Have you ever had a sleepless night?  Worry is certainly the devil's tool for distraction!  Here is a little article about a sleepless night and God's answers.

Following is an article I wrote at 4:30 a.m. yesterday. I'm so glad I have the Bible! The Word of God is full of people  who are struggling. I am amazed at how God used them, in spite of uncertainty. God places our mission right before our faces: our home, our children, grandchildren, our spouses, then....His Church.

I send this article along as a humble cracked pot who makes so many mistakes. I am eternally grateful God uses mistakes. May you find peace in the verses. -- I am forever relying on His Grip: Laurie

Sleepless

I can’t sleep. In the restlessness of this darkest morning, I toss and turn.

I pray. Sleep does not come, so I roll out of bed and pad silently down the dark hall.

I stop by my daughter’s door. In the darkness, I pray for her, touching her sleeping hand lightly. She is a precious gift.

My kitchen brings light and a broad counter where I put my Bible and paper and cards. In the stillness of the a.m., the only sound is the hum of the refrigerator.

All the people who have collected in my head, calling me to care, are now cards scattered across my counter. What can I write them?

God’s Words, not mine. So I find all my Bible references to suffering and comfort and hope and direction and I start to write.

In the Bible I find all those broken people whose hope, peace and meaning came from our Father who created them. In their desperate moments, God inspired them to write. Their words tell me something:

I can’t solve anything on my own. I can put one foot in front of the other and trust God to work things out. I write this in my cards to my friends…and I write this to you.

Somehow, I feel you, too, can’t sleep sometimes. Won’t you join me at my counter?

Here are some great things God has to say to us. Pick up your Bible and take a look:

                  2 Corin 1:3-7 / Romans 5:3 / Psalm 46:1 / Psalm 55:22 / Jeremiah 29:12

          Matt 11:28 / 2 Corin 4:7-9 / 1 Peter 1: 3-9 / 1 Peter 4:12-13 / Psalm 119:28

                  Psalm 23 / Psalm 126:5-6 / Psalm 27:5 / Isaiah 26:3

As the black outside my window turns to deep blue laced with pink, something washes over me. It is peace.

I lean against the counter and watch the sun rise. It’s a good morning.

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.” – Psalm 143:8
